Parents
We know it takes a village filled with willing villagers to help develop strong and healthy youth, which is why we share resources and tips with you every month to help you connect with your teen.
Thought You Oughta Know
Some things Teens tell us:
“I want to talk to my parents about...”
They have a big influence on my decisions...
When they brush off my feelings or I am overlooked, it makes me afraid to come to just talk until I have a serious problem.
Build a bond with me so we can be able to talk about the hard stuff.
“I wish you knew...”
I respect you, but I also want to be respected.
We understand that sex is a scary topic and parents might not know how to approach conversations about it, but we want parents to talk to us about it anyway.
We sometimes feel dismissed by our parents, and therefore talk to our friends instead. We want our parents to hear us out, understand, and encourage us when we share.
We want mutual respect, and we want parents to respect our boundaries and confidentiality. For example, we don’t want parents to discuss personal conversations with others.
